- The purpose of this project is to develop a sea turtle conservation program in Liberia with on the ground community based conservation projects. Liberia’s nesting sea turtle populations are depleted from overexploitation but has important foraging grounds along its entire coastline and nesting beach habitat intact and suitable for recovering sea turtle populations. - The purpose of this project is to organize and train community members in the communities of Bassa Point, Little Bassa, and Edina to conduct sea turtle conservation initiatives. The project aims to reduce threats to turtles and their nests from poaching. Specific activities include conducting daily patrols to count and protect nesting sea turtles and nests, developing educational materials, and implementing community education and outreach programs.
- Continuation of marine turtle conservation project in Bassa Point, Little Bassa and Edina (2014-2015)
- This project will organize and train community members in the communities of Bassa Point, Little Bassa and Edina to conduct daily patrols to count and protect nesting leatherbacks, hawksbills and olivey ridelys and their nests throughout the nesting season; develop educational conservation-oriented materials; and conduct community education and outreach programs.
- Continuation of the Marine Turtle project in Bassa Point, Little Bassa and Edina, Liberia (2013-2014)
- This project will support community based nest survey and protection efforts along 12 miles of nesting beach. This grant will also establish four marine nature clubs as part of a community education and outreach plan aimed at developing future sea turtle conservationists.
- Coastal protection of sea turtle in Bassa Point, Little Bassa and Edina, Liberia (2012-2013)
- This grant supports community based nest survey and protection efforts along 20 km of nesting beach and community outreach activities including establishment of four marine nature clubs with school youth, and work with local community leaders to develop community action plans to conserve sea turtles.
