The Analytics of Counter-Illegal Wildlife Trade Funding
The data displayed in the IWT Project Map and Database is giving an overview of the counter-IWT project landscape worldwide, with the potential to guide project design. To make informed decisions on funding and funding allocations, be it per region, country, species/taxa, or intervention type, more detailed figures and calculations are required. Due to the inconsistencies experienced for some databases, these figures represent the closest estimates of counter-IWT donor funding and co-financing possible. As for the database, funding is included for projects whose implementation ended in 2015 or after, with the exception of earlier phases of projects stretching beyond 2015. All funding figures refer to unique funding only, which excludes any duplications, such as additional project sites or countries. Please also refer to the methodology here.
The graphs and figures displayed below are based solely on the projects included in the IWT Project Map and Database, and are automatically updated whenever new projects are added. For that reason, this should be considered a “living” analytics tool.
TOTAL Funding for Projects combating IWT
TOTAL Donor Funding to date since 2015
TOTAL Co-Financing to date since 2015
Note: The TOTAL Co-financing is not significantly larger than donor funding is because 1) for a number of projects co-financing figures are not given, particularly for regional-level and international-level projects (see below); and 2) for many projects co-financing matched the donor funding 1:1.
